| Mount Ogden Trail (19) | | Length: 4.5 miles, one way | Difficulty: Moderate | | Elevation: 6,560' to 9,572' | Trail surface: Dirt / Gravel | | | Trail status: Open | Special note: Closed in winter for downhill skiing at Snowbasin Resort. | Trail summary: A relatively easy way to get to the top of Mt. Ogden. | Description: The Mt. Ogden trail follows, for the most part, the service roads for the ski lifts at Snow Basin. But this road access need not deter anyone looking for nature. You may very well kick moose and deer off these roads. You will gain a lot of honest elevation, but the road grades make for moderate hiking. In fact, this is the easiest trail by which to "top out" on one of our mountain summits.
When you get to the saddle just south of Mt. Ogden, head north up the maintenance road for a few hundred yards. You will see a trail sign to your right, at which point climb off the road and take the trail to the very top--it's MUCH easier than the steep road.
From mid June to mid September, Snow Basin runs its Needles Gondola on Friday through Sunday (and holidays) each week. You can avoid much of the ascent--or descent--by riding up the Gondola to Needles Lodge. | Trailhead location: Snowbasin Ski Resort parking lot. | | | |
