North Skyline Trail (4)
Length: 11.4 miles, one wayDifficulty: Difficult
Elevation: 6,180' to 9,764'Trail surface: Dirt
Trail status: Open
Trail summary:
Also referred to as 'North Ogden Pass to Ben Lomond.' The North Skyline trail is the longest of the three routes out of Ogden Valley leading to Ben Lomond Peak. It's also the least steep.

Note: This trail is open to off-road motorcycles.

Description:
North Skyline Trail climbs steadily for its first two miles, criss-crossing the mountainside with several major switchbacks. After conquering these switchbacks, you can expect to make good time through a cool conifer forest and along a ridge that runs to Ben Lomond Peak at 9,712 feet, and thereafter, northward to Willard Peak at 9,764 feet.

The first two miles of the trail are along a south-facing slope, so this section can be hot and dry throughout the summer.

Trailhead location:
The North Skyline Trail begins at the North Ogden Divide Trailhead, across the road from the trailhead parking area.

Trail history:
The Skyline Trail is a major segment of The Great Western Trail. The Great Western Trail is a unique corridor of braided and paralleling trails traversing 4,455 miles through Arizona, Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, and Montana. It incorporates stunning desert and canyon landscapes, plateaus, woodlands, dense forests and alpine meadows. It links 18 National Forests, Indian, State and BLM lands and encompasses the most diverse vegetation, topography and wildlife in the western United States.
