Elevation: 4,920' to 8,100'Trail surface: Dirt
Trail status: Open
Trail summary:
South Skyline trail has steep switchbacks..

Description:
South Skyline Trail has steep switchbacks, both on its north and south ends. But these are worth your trouble because the trail's main length follows the relatively easy ridgeline or "skyline" running from Ogden Canyon to the North Ogden Divide. This trail is popular with hikers, bikers, and equestrians.

Trailhead location:
Access the south end of the Skyline Trail at the Skyline Trailhead, on State Road 158 just over 1 mile northeast of the Pineview Dam. Access the north end of the Skyline Trail at the North Ogden Divide Trailhead. NOTE: the going is easier if you start at the North Ogden Divide Trailhead.

Trail history:
The Skyline Trail is a major segment of The Great Western Trail. The Great Western Trail is a unique corridor of braided and paralleling trails traversing 4,455 miles through Arizona, Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, and Montana. It incorporates stunning desert and canyon landscapes, plateaus, woodlands, dense forests and alpine meadows. It links 18 National Forests, Indian, State and BLM lands and encompasses the most diverse vegetation, topography and wildlife in the western United States.
