TFNU 2024 Trail Crew

May 1

TFNU is proud to welcome our new 2024 Trail Crew. Alyssa Lommel & Zachary Nault are joining us and bring with them a wealth of trail building knowledge and experience.

We asked them each for a bit of information about themselves so that we could get to know them better and photos so that when you see them on the trails, you’ll recognize them to say hi!

Trail Crew Lead, Alyssa Lommel

Trail Crew Lead - Alyssa:

I grew up in Minnesota and have lived in Utah for the past 5 years. Over the course of my trail career, I have had the opportunity to work on many unique projects, working for various non-profit organizations, ski areas as well as with private contractors in Utah and Northern Minnesota. A few memorable builds were when I was part of a build in Northern Minnesota which included elaborate rock armoring, boardwalks and creative solutions to harvest dirt amongst endless bluestone bedrock. When I moved to the Central Wasatch, I had the opportunity to hone my trail layout and design skills while learning to dig in a desert environment.

My trail building career began with a non-profit so joining TFNU is something I am very excited about! I’ve seen firsthand the impact that organizations like TFNU have on a community. I really enjoy being a part of that. The power of community is inspiring.

I am an avid telemark skier, rock climber, and mountain biker. Most of my free time is spent chasing around my 12 year old pup, Milo.

Trail Crew Member - Zach

My name is Zach Nault, and I like Trails! I grew up in Northern Minnesota but have lived in Utah since 2020. I’ve been involved in past trail work at ski area bike parks, and volunteer opportunities with local trail clubs and the USFS (US Forest Service) rehab projects. Minnesota and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan have a killer trail scene and I was very lucky to be a part of it.

I am excited to be working with TFNU because my offices is litteraly the Wasatch Mountains! And - I’ll be contributing to the outdoor recreation community.

When I’m not maintaining trails, I love to play outside with my dog, Milo. You also care that I telemark, right? I’m also an active rock climber, mountain biker, and fisherman. I really appreciate the adventurous spirit of Northern Utah!

And yes. If you were reading closely enough, you probably figured out that this power duo is, in fact, also a power couple.

TFNU is proud to welcome Alyssa & Zach (and Milo) to The Trails Foundation of Northern Utah. Be nice. Say hi when you see them.
